Please note: we do not have the funding to offer the course to individuals.  If you are looking to go on a training course you need to contact organisations in your area. If funding is available we would be very happy to come and deliver the training!

The Peer support training course is delivered over 10 training days and takes an experiential learning approach, focusing on active listening skills, an understanding of Recovery and Recovery focussed language and approaches, Personal Recovery planning, problem solving, boundaries, ethical issues, challenging situations and working in groups.

The course has been delivered five times and it has received a lot of strong positive feedback. The training will be of interest to anyone wanting to work in Mental Health services and is easily transferable to substance misuse services. Some of the feedback we have received:

"Empowering, validating and an experience that has given my life currency."
Trainee South West London & St George's Healthcare Trust

"Challenging, engrossing,  stimulating  and tiring!!!"
Trainee, Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust

"What a fantastic course" " This has got the most potential to be truly life changing for us"
Trainee, Herts

In addition to the ten day course, we now offer two day awareness training on peer support.

Peer support is fast becoming a key part of mental health service provision across the UK. The employment of ‘Peer Support Workers’, people with a lived experience of mental health is seen as by the Government as a central component to the delivery of personalised mental health care (Making Recovery a Reality (2008), New Horizons (2009). There is likely to be a significant increase in the number of Peer Support worker posts across the UK.
