I have been a youth worker for the past ten years and now have taken a new step and started to work in the Mental Health field. I am co-ordinating the teaching that Making Waves delivers at the School of Nursing. During teaching sessions members talk about our experiences to back up our ideas of how we think Mental Health services should be.

Mental Health and its difficulties is something I feel strongly about as I have been mad as a meat axe, one sandwich short of a picnic, the lights are on but no ones home, doolally! for some time. Some of those phrases make me laugh but the problem is we still face so much misunderstanding about who we are and people still believe we are not 'normal'. I have been a service user for 15 years and some services have provided light at the end of a long tunnel. At Making Waves we are supporting and encouraging mental health workers to see us as people, not as just labels and understand how they can support us. With this project I believe we can challenge some of the negative things about the system and provide a way for people to channel some of their good and bad experiences in a positive way.

If anyone would like to deliver teaching sessions then please go to the teaching page of this website for more information and /or email me on

Cheers :)
